Background
Establishment
The Refugee Appeal Board is established by the Refugees Act 2006 (repealed), mandated to hear and determine appeals against decisions of the Commissioner for Refugee Affairs.
The Refugees Act 2006 was subsequently repealed and replaced by the Refugees Act 2021. The Refugees Act 2021 established the Refugee Status Appeals Committee, which is intended to replace the Refugee Appeal Board. However, the Refugee Appeal Board continues to execute its above-mentioned mandate in accordance with the provisions of section 43 of the Refugees Act 2021 (also known as the transitional provisions).
Working with partners within Government, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), the Refugee Appeal Board continues to develop strategies and policies to better the management of refugees within the country.
